Mr. Palamone is a Principal/Member of the Board of Directors of Urban Systems Inc., a Traffic/Transportation Engineering and Land Use Planning firm. Mr. Palamone is responsible for business management as well as the firms’ marketing strategies and new market initiatives. With over thirty-five years of experience in the engineering and construction industry, Mr. Palamone directs a skilled staff of over twenty professionals with annual revenues exceeding $2.5 million. Mr. Palamone served as the firms’ CEO/Managing Partner for over fifteen years. In 2012, he stepped aside for emerging young leadership for the firm.
Under his direction, the company has developed a highly-regarded reputation in Traffic Engineering and Transportation Planning on a regional and national level. This reputation is evidenced by the firm’s extensive repeat clientele which includes many of the local parish governments throughout the State as well as the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD). Additionally, private land use developers of both residential and commercial developments often look to Urban Systems for their Traffic Engineering, Parking, Planning and Design needs.
Mr. Palamone is an accomplished business executive, involved community activist, volunteer and caring family man. He is also an accomplished cyclist and tri-athlete completing many sprint races as well as completing the New Orleans Half Ironman. He is also a certified spin instructor and teaches group fitness classes at Ochsner Fitness.
Mr. Palamone is an active member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), Deep South chapter. ITE is a professional industry based organization that promotes the safe and efficient movement of people and goods. Mr. Palamone serves on the Scholarship committee. The chapter awards close to $10,000.00 in scholarships to students attending local universities that have an interest in Traffic Engineering as their chosen profession. He is also a member of the American Council of Consulting Engineers.
Mr. Palamone is currently a member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Jefferson Chamber of Commerce. He served as the Business Organization’s Chairman of the Board for the 2016 year. Currently, he serves the board as immediate past chair and chairs the Chamber’s Political Action Committee (PAC).
Mr. Palamone was the Chairman of the Board of the River Region Chamber of Commerce in 2013. He is the current Chair of the Chambers Workforce Development Committee.
Mr. Palamone serves on South Central Louisiana Community and Technical College, Reserve campus Advisory Committee.
In 2008, Mr. Palamone was appointed by Governor Bobby Jindal to the State of Louisiana Workforce Investment Council as a representative for General Business. He also sits on the Council’s Executive Committee and the State of Louisiana’s Industrial Based Certification Board.
In 2013, Mr. Palamone was asked to sit on the Board of Directors of Louisiana Calling. This non-profit organization was established to promote Technical Career opportunities that require a certificate or Associates Degrees offered by the States’ Community and Technical College Systems, as well as other learning institutions and training facilities. The organization conducted statewide research regarding the “Stigma” associated with these careers and is now in a marketing campaign to change the perception. To date the organization has raised nearly $5 million and continues to raise funds.
Mr. Palamone is a former member of Greater New Orleans, Inc. Board of Directors and is currently on GNO, Inc’s Public Policy committee. GNO, Inc. is the regional economic development organization in the New Orleans Metro Area.
Mr. Palamone, at the request of the Superintendent of the Jefferson Parish School System, assembled and chaired a task force to evaluate the Career/Technical education delivery System in the Parish school system. His task force completed the first phase of the charge in November of 2012; with both short and long term solutions. One initiative was to establish a memorandum of understanding between the school system and Delgado Community College that will enhance and strengthen the Career education opportunities for the students.
Mr. Palamone is also Chairman of the Board and one of the founding members of the Jefferson Education Foundation. The Foundation was established to seek and administer funding grants to improve the educational experience in the classroom for students and teachers. The Foundation has secured over $32 million in product and services grants to the Jefferson Parish Public School System.
Mr. Palamone became Chairman of the Jefferson Parish/Transit Advisory Board serving as the Parish Presidents appointment for over fourteen years. This is the government appointed board that oversees the transit/public transportation operations in the Parish of Jefferson.
